Up until this point in the season, Dallas has undoubtedly had a rough time. Although the ownership, coaching staff, and front office are all under scrutiny, the Cowboys players may be suffering the most.

Extending their best players has been one of Dallas’ main narratives over the past year, and they have completed these deals despite consistently waiting too long. The Cowboys have spent more than $375 million in the past two months to ensure that Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb will remain in the building for many years to come. Although these two contracts were necessary, both players have had difficulties right from the start. Is the squad only 3-3 because of these two players? Of course not, but that does not imply we should ignore their difficulties in the early going. Now let us examine these Cowboys players and their 2024 performance up to this point in further detail.

Dak Prescott: Insufficient Assistance or Skill Problem?

Naturally, the deal that has generated the most discussion and criticism this season is the largest of them. Prescott is the team’s public face, and given the roster’s current situation, they probably will not win if he is not playing at his best.

Sadly for Dallas, up to this point in the season, Prescott has not been at his best.He finished second for the MVP title in 2023 with 36 touchdowns and just nine interceptions. He is currently just three interceptions short of his final total from the previous season.Prescott has not been able to withstand the late-game forced turnover or the red-zone interception that ends a crucial drive, but not all of those have been entirely on him.

His percentage of touchdown passes thrown this season has fallen from 6.1% in 2023 to 3.6% in 2024, making interceptions not his only weak point.

Regarding his performance, the Cowboys fan base has been divided. While some believe Prescott is solely to blame, others believe the front office failed to provide him with enough weapons.

There is some truth to both viewpoints. In addition to lacking a running game and a receiving corps that is not producing any explosiveness or separation, Dak Prescott has not been up to pace thus far.
