Although the Dallas Cowboys are still in the running for the NFC East title despite their current 3-3 record, fans have rapidly lost hope for the 2024 campaign. Dallas is still in the running for the playoffs, but they have struggled to win and have suffered three crushing defeats.
Many Cowboys pundits think the franchise is undergoing a “soft rebuild.” To put it another way, they are voluntarily reversing course or starting over in 2025.
Because of this, a lot of Cowboys supporters are now focusing on the 2025 NFL Draft. That gives the front office plenty of time to decide which position to focus on in the initial round.
The divisive discussion has already declared its return to social media with a clear urge to run back. A few running backs have the potential to be selected in the first round, but one prospect in particular is very certain to be selected in the first round: Ashton Jeanty, a Boise State sensation.
Jeanty talked about his NFL future on a recent live broadcast, mentioning the Cowboys as a team he would love to play for.
Ashton Jeanty, a standout player for Boise State, stated that he wants to play with the Cowboys.
Jeanty said that because the Kansas City Chiefs are consistently a contender for a Super Bowl, he would like to play for them. The cold weather in Chicago made him reject the Chicago Bears. Jeanty is more aware of the kind of influence he would have on the Cowboys.
Jeanty, a former four-star prospect, hails from Frisco, Texas, the home of the Cowboys’ headquarters. He played at Dallas’ practice facility and went to Frisco’s Lone Star High School. In six months, Jeanty’s “hometown hero” belief might come to fruition.
Jeanty is in the middle of Boise State’s record-breaking junior campaign. He has now amassed 1,248 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns in just six games. Both Barry Sanders’ single-season NCAA running record of 2,628 yards and Sanders’ single-season NCAA record of 37 rushing touchdowns are within reach of the Heisman Trophy frontrunner. There is a reason why many draft experts believe Jeanty will be a future superstar, even if he may not fit the “generational talent” requirements.
The notion of selecting Jeanty in the first round will not sit well with many Cowboys supporters because running backs can be discovered at any stage of the draft. Nevertheless, clubs that have invested in a running back in the past few years with a first-round pick have seen a good return on their investment.
In that sense, some of the most noteworthy success stories are Saquon Barkley, Josh Jacobs, Ezekiel Elliott, and Christian McCaffrey. Bijan Robinson and Jahmyr Gibbs, two second-year talents, are also vying for that spot.
Although selecting a running back in the first round is not our favorite notion, the Cowboys’ previous two first-round selections were both project players straight out of college: LT Tyler Guyton and DT Mazi Smith. They move slowly.
