The fifth-worst loss in the Dallas Cowboys’ history, a 47-9 setback to the Detroit Lions on October 13, has left the team still in shock. The fact that the blowout happened on the 82nd birthday of general manager and club owner Jerry Jones, who was watching from his suite at AT&T Stadium, made it even more painful.Jones recently vented his annoyance on CBS Sports, saying he thinks the club is either not performing plays well or is just creating bad ones.

Jones stated on Dallas’ 105.3 The Fan that “we are designing bad plays, or we are designing bad concepts.” The truth is that while there are some executional problems, there is also some of that. Some of the talent is there. Our talent is something I truly appreciate. Although I appreciate our youthful players, they make a few more mistakes than seasoned players.

Soon after, head coach Mike McCarthy would reply to his boss, stating that although the team’s 3-3 record is not where it should be, he does not think the plays and ideas are incorrect.

“I speak with Jerry frequently. We have had time to complete the self-assessment. I did not pay particular attention to the comments. However, I do not believe that our plays and conceptions are poor. However, I will return and make sure,” McCarthy stated. “We are not where we would like to be. That is obvious, and I am well aware that I am ultimately responsible for it. We work really hard. We are doing exactly what we want to.

Returning to the Detroit game, he added, “I know it was the first run of the game.” We rehearsed it several times. We made the incorrect declaration based on communication, and I received the reaction we anticipated.
