Cowboys Linked to Trade Rumors for Bears’ Pass Rusher
As the NFL trade deadline approaches in under two weeks, speculation surrounds the Cowboys and their 2024 roster challenges. While some might expect a trade to be forthcoming, it’s important to remember that Jerry Jones often favors inaction, making it possible that no moves will be made.
However, if the team remains focused on a competitive 2024, a significant area to address would be their struggling defensive line. Currently, the Cowboys average only 2.3 sacks per game, ranking 17th in the league, and their performance against the run has been equally poor, allowing 859 yards this season, which ranks 27th.
Cowboys Are ‘Short-Handed’ at Pass Rusher
This context makes the mention of Dominique Robinson, a pass rusher from the Bears, particularly intriguing for Cowboys fans. ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler reported, “The Bears are also weighing trade options with pass rusher Dominique Robinson, who could use a fresh start elsewhere. Teams such as the Cowboys, Cardinals, and Commanders are short-handed at pass rusher.”
Robinson, drafted in the fifth round in 2022, has fallen to third string after the Bears acquired Montez Sweat. A former receiver from Miami (Ohio), he possesses the raw talent and athleticism necessary for the role, though he will require development.
According to NFL.com’s scouting report, Robinson is a “wideout turned quarterback hunter” with the physical attributes to succeed as a 3-4 outside linebacker or 4-3 rush end. He often shows promise despite being relatively inexperienced, demonstrating quickness, fluidity, and the ability to penetrate the pocket.
The Cowboys have been affected at defensive end, with Micah Parsons currently injured but expected to return soon. Chauncey Golston has been effective on the edge, but veteran DeMarcus Lawrence, 32, is battling injuries and showing signs of decline. Rookie Marshawn Kneeland is out until November due to a knee injury, further complicating matters.
While Robinson has long-term potential, the Cowboys are in a position that prioritizes immediate results, raising doubts about his fit on the team.
