With the NFL trade deadline less than two weeks away, many believe the Cowboys’ numerous issues with their 2024 roster might force them into making a trade.
However, Jerry Jones’ leadership often leans toward inaction, so it’s highly possible no moves will be made.
Yet, if the team is still aiming to compete in 2024, they could address their struggling defensive line at the deadline. The Cowboys are underperforming in terms of pressuring the quarterback, ranking 17th in the NFL with an average of 2.3 sacks per game.
Stopping the run has also been an issue, as they’ve allowed 859 rushing yards this season, placing them 27th in the league.
Cowboys Lacking Depth at Pass Rusher
With that in mind, when ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler mentioned the Bears’ potential interest in trading pass rusher Dominique Robinson, it caught the attention of Cowboys fans.
“The Bears are considering trade options for pass rusher Dominique Robinson, who could benefit from a fresh start. Teams like the Cowboys, Cardinals, and Commanders are lacking at pass rusher,” Fowler reported.
Robinson, a 2022 fifth-round pick, dropped to third string after the Bears acquired Montez Sweat. Originally a receiver at Miami (Ohio), Robinson is still developing but has the raw talent and athleticism needed for the position.
NFL.com’s scouting report described Robinson as a “former wideout turned quarterback hunter with the tools to build a successful career as a 3-4 outside linebacker or 4-3 rush end. Despite his inexperience, he often flashes his potential, showing quickness, athleticism, and fluidity to disrupt the pocket.”
The Cowboys have been hit with injuries at defensive end, including Micah Parsons, though he’s expected to return soon. Chauncey Golston has stepped up, but veteran DeMarcus Lawrence (foot) is injured and aging, while rookie Marshawn Kneeland is sidelined until November with a knee injury.
Though Robinson has long-term potential, it’s unclear if he’s the right fit for the Cowboys’ immediate needs.
