The Cleveland Browns are in rebuild mode after their 2024 season derailed in Week One, and now they might trade with the Dallas Cowboys in the coming weeks.

Cleveland, with a 1-6 record, has little left to play for, and one of their top players could be on the trading block.

Cleveland Browns Part Ways With Fan Favorite In New Trade

Mike Jones and Jeff Howe of The Athletic wrote an article titled “Six NFL trades we’d like to see: Maxx Crosby to Lions, Nick Chubb to Cowboys.”

They suggest trading running back Nick Chubb to the Cowboys for a 2025 third-round and sixth-round pick, explaining the logic behind the deal.

The Cowboys are last in rushing yards, touchdowns, and yards per attempt, ranking 30th in attempts. They lack the personnel, and Mike McCarthy hasn’t committed to the run. The imbalance has cost them several games. Chubb has the star appeal Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones loves.

Although Chubb is recovering from a major knee injury, the potential payoff could be huge if he finishes the season as a top-10 back. Losing Chubb would be tough for the Browns, given his importance and how the fans welcomed him back this season.

They likely want to avoid further backlash after fans turned on quarterback Deshaun Watson, but Watson’s contract will soon strain their salary cap.

Chubb, who turns 29 in December, will be a free agent after this season, and it will be difficult for the Browns to keep a high-paid running back while managing their cap. They may need to draft a QB, and an extra third-round pick could help.

Trading Chubb would be a bold move for the Browns, as he’s a fan favorite and deeply connected to the team.

The star running back played his first game last weekend since tearing his knee in Week Two of 2023. Despite his impending free agency, the Browns seem to want him back.

Cleveland needs to overhaul its roster, so getting a third-round pick for Chubb would be a good return. However, Chubb likely has three to five more good years, and considering the Browns’ track record with draft picks, keeping him long-term could be the best decision for the team.
