As the November 5th trade deadline approaches, a proposed trade from The Athletic has caught the attention of Cowboys fans and analysts alike.
With a 3-3 record this season, it’s clear that the Dallas Cowboys need reinforcements to remain competitive. If they fail to make a substantial addition, their chances of contending for the Super Bowl are slim. Currently, the Cowboys rank 31st in defense and 20th in offense, which has led to widespread disappointment.
A significant concern is their struggling running game, as Dallas possesses one of the weakest RB groups in the league. They are averaging an alarming 3.5 yards per carry, placing them last in both rushing yards and touchdowns.
Despite the front office’s optimistic stance, there is increasing pressure from fans and media for a trade to rectify this issue. In their latest article, Mike Jones and Jeff Howe of The Athletic suggested a potential trade that could address this need: acquiring Cleveland Browns star Nick Chubb in exchange for a third-round and a sixth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
The Cleveland Browns are currently 1-6 and have already traded Amari Cooper, making them likely candidates to part with other veterans. At 28 years old and in the final year of his contract, Chubb is a clear trade target.
“Chubb embodies the star power that team owner Jerry Jones desires. While there is some risk associated with his return from a significant knee injury, the potential rewards are immense if Chubb can perform at a top-10 running back level by season’s end,” say Jones and Howe.
In his last healthy season, Chubb amassed 1,525 yards and 12 touchdowns across 17 games, solidifying his status as one of the league’s premier running backs. Despite recent injuries, including a torn ACL, PCL, and MCL, the four-time Pro Bowler is still expected to outperform the current options in the Cowboys’ backfield.
