The Dallas Cowboys’ early-season woes continued in Week 8 with a 30-24 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on “Sunday Night Football.”
The score was closer than the game felt, as the 49ers led by 17 in the fourth quarter. Dak Prescott rallied the Cowboys late, pulling them within one possession. Dallas had a chance to take the lead in the final minutes, but the drive stalled, ending in a turnover on downs and sealing their defeat.
Mike McCarthy’s team struggled overall, with only 292 yards compared to San Francisco’s 469. Prescott, the NFL’s highest-paid player, threw two interceptions, contributing to a two-turnover deficit.
Many Cowboys fans voiced disappointment, including ex-star Dez Bryant, who demanded action from owner Jerry Jones.
“Fire everybody, Jerry,” Bryant posted on X. “Quit f****** around.”
Dallas has hope for improvement as key defenders Micah Parsons, DeMarcus Lawrence, and Daron Bland are set to return.
However, this won’t solve the NFL’s weakest rushing attack, which averaged 77.2 yards per game before the 49ers game and dropped further after only 56 yards on the ground.
Bryant is familiar with Dallas’ challenges. In his eight seasons (2010-2017), he saw similar regular-season success with Tony Romo-led teams that fell short in the playoffs.
The Cowboys now sit at 3-4, out of playoff contention heading into Week 9. Time remains to turn the season around, but with a tough schedule that includes matchups against the Falcons, Eagles, Texans, and Commanders, Jones needs to act swiftly.
