While the Cowboys’ chances of recovering from their rough 2024 season remain uncertain, a brighter outlook for fans involves considering potential 2025 player acquisitions.

The 2025 NFL draft, in particular, is expected to present valuable options at running back and wide receiver, two positions where the Cowboys need depth. While local star Ashton Jeanty is a popular pick linked to Dallas, it’s worth watching the emerging wide receivers set to enter the league next year.

ESPN has its eye on this situation, especially with the Cowboys only somewhat confident in former third-round pick Jalen Tolbert as their No. 2 receiver. With Brandin Cooks facing free agency, ESPN sees Arizona star Tetairoa McMillan as an ideal complement to pair with CeeDee Lamb.

Cowboys Viewed as ‘Perfect Fit’ for Tetairoa McMillan

Though Arizona’s offense has struggled this season, McMillan has excelled, leading the Big 12 with 982 receiving yards in eight games. He recently notched a 10-catch, 202-yard game against West Virginia.

The junior has totaled 3,086 yards over 33 games. He contemplated leaving Arizona this offseason and entered the transfer portal, but he and quarterback Noah Fifita ultimately returned.

The Cowboys’ challenge may be landing McMillan. Other top receiver prospects (Luther Burden, Isaiah Bond, Emeka Egbuka) are competing for the first receiver pick, though their performances have been lackluster compared to McMillan, who’s now No. 2 on Pro Football Focus’ draft Big Board.

ESPN’s draft expert Matt Miller, in “2025 NFL draft: Team fits for 10 college football prospects,” labeled McMillan a “perfect” match for Dallas.

“Dallas urgently needs more passing options, and McMillan’s skill at winning jump balls with his height would pair perfectly with CeeDee Lamb,” Miller stated.

“With his 6-foot-5, 212-pound frame, McMillan excels at 50-50 balls in the red zone and open field and shows speed after the catch to make screens and short routes productive. Dallas must broaden its passing game, and McMillan’s size and big-play ability would keep defenses from overloading on Lamb.”
