In addition to their 3-5 record, the Dallas Cowboys have suffered a significant blow with quarterback Dak Prescott’s severe hamstring injury sustained during their Week 9 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. Prescott has not been placed on the injury reserve by the team, though, as he seeks additional medical advice. Cooper Rush, a seasoned quarterback, will take his position while he is away, beginning with the Week 11 Eagles game. Skip Bayless, a sports analyst, cautioned Jerry Jones, the owner and general manager of the Cowboys, about Rush. The expert claimed on X, formerly Twitter, that Cooper Rush is Jerry Jones’ worst nightmare. “I think Jerry will be secretly supporting the opposition to him. Additionally, I will not be shocked if Cooper Rush defeats the Eagles, as he did when he made his first start for Dak in 2022 against the Bengals, who were fresh off a Super Bowl.

Given the likelihood that Prescott would lose a significant amount of time due to his injury, Skip had argued for Cooper Rush to start against the Eagles when he injured his hamstring.

Additionally, Bayless seemed certain that Rush could surpass Prescott, who guided the team to three consecutive defeats to postseason opponents, based on his tweet.

Rush replaced Prescott against the Falcons and finished 13–25 for 115 yards and a score.

Fans should also keep in mind that in the offseason, Cowboys general manager Jerry Jones signed Prescott to a $240 million contract extension. Therefore, Jones may reconsider spending so much money if Prescott misses a significant portion of the season due to injury and his backup is able to salvage his season.

Maybe this was what Skip Bayless meant when he said that the team’s own general manager would “privately [root] against him” and that Rush would be Jerry Jones’ “worst nightmare.”

But in Week 11, the Cowboys play the Eagles, who are 6-2, and a loss may end their season. Coach Mike McCarthy defended his choice to start Rush, even if fans would have preferred to see Trey Lance replace Prescott.

As a backup quarterback, Cooper Rush is [as] revered as Rich Gannon was when I played with Rich in the 1990s with the Chiefs. He simply does things correctly. He is a great professional. There will be a lot of faith in him,” McCarthy stated, as reported by ESPN’s Todd Archer.

Prescott’s injury, however, is most likely not the sole cause of the Cowboys’ season’s outcome. Fans criticized Jones, for instance, for not pursuing Derrick Henry throughout the postseason.

Jones then criticized McCarthy on a radio interview for his team’s poor execution and concept design after he insisted on keeping their head coach for the season.

The Cowboys are undoubtedly more concerned about other issues than Dak Prescott suffering an injury.
