Cowboys Make Final Decision on Dak, Plan to Sign New QB

FRISCO – Reality is now setting in for the Dallas Cowboys, with Dak Prescott accepting that his severe hamstring injury might be season-ending and that an additional backup quarterback must now be signed.

Cooper Rush will be the starter in Sunday’s matchup against visiting Philadelphia, and owner Jerry Jones continues to tease the idea that third-stringer Trey Lance might finally play as well.
“Oh, there is a window for Trey Lance. There are packages we can work on,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan.
Some are interpreting Jones’ comments to mean that Dallas might split up snaps between Rush and Lance. At the risk of seeming cynical, at this point, it’s just as likely that Jones is simply trying to drum up interest in a game in which Dallas is a seven-point underdo.

Meanwhile, we now know that Dak’s “torn off the bone” hamstring issue is likely to take longer than four weeks to heal, that it might require surgery and that it might be season-ending
Said COO Stephen Jones on 105.3 The Fan on Friday: “Right now, I don’t think anyone knows whether it will be four weeks, six weeks or the season. We’ll just have to continue to monitor that and see where it takes us.”
The team MVP quarterback will likely now forfeit his roster spot to a new depth-chart body, with speculation that the team could be interested in former TCU star Max Duggan.

The 3-5 Cowboys have lost three games in a row. The 6-2 Eagles have won four straight. These clubs are obviously not on the same plane right now. … With Philadelphia thinking playoffs and the Cowboys – slow to admit it – justified in starting to think about 2025.
