In Week 10, the Dallas Cowboys’ dismal 2024 season took a turn for the worst as they were humiliated 34-6 by the rival Philadelphia Eagles. With their season on the line, this struggling team had an opportunity to fight, yet it should come as no surprise that they lost a crucial game.
Fans are calling for head coach Mike McCarthy to be fired again in Week 10 due to the unsettling tendency of the former Super Bowl champion consistently losing big matchups. Owner Jerry Jones was notified of the accusations and spoke with him about McCarthy’s job security after the loss
Despite calls to remove McCarthy, Jones told the reporters that he has no interest in changing the coach. The owner of Dallas brought up his prior decisions to fire a head coach during a season that did not work out, and he seemed determined to avoid making the same mistakes again.
Jones’ excuses with the coaching staff are extremely disheartening, but they are to be expected at this stage. The Cowboys are clearly not fighting for their boss, whose job they know is at stake.
Dallas can not make any significant roster additions at this stage of the season because the trade deadline has also past, thus the coaching staff is the logical target for adjustments.
Given how poorly the club has handled McCarthy’s dubious job security, there is no reason to spend the remaining eight games under his leadership. In order to assess a potential head coach, Dallas may choose to hire defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, who has prior head coaching experience, or try out a young player like Al Harris.Since McCarthy’s fate has already been decided, the organization would be better off beginning work on the next period now rather than putting off the inevitable.
