The Dallas Cowboys are enduring one of their most frustrating seasons in recent memory, currently sitting at a 3-6 record after losing four consecutive games. The team has also yet to secure a win at home this season at AT&T Stadium. To make matters worse, quarterback Dak Prescott, who signed a four-year, $240M contract extension in the offseason, suffered a hamstring injury during Week 9 against the Atlanta Falcons, which will sideline him for the remainder of the year.
In Week 10, backup quarterback Cooper Rush started in Prescott’s place but struggled, passing for just 45 yards on 23 attempts. In the fourth quarter, the Cowboys turned to third-string quarterback Trey Lance for a few plays, but Lance’s performance was also underwhelming, as he threw an interception on one of his six passes. On another Dallas turnover, Lance found himself chasing Eagles safety Reed Blankenship after recovering a fumble. While attempting to prevent Blankenship from scoring, Lance lowered his helmet and made contact, forcing Blankenship out of bounds.
As a result of this hit, Lance was fined $22,511 by the NFL for unnecessary roughness due to the use of his helmet, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. “This is a new one,” Pelissero tweeted, noting the fine for Lance, the former 49ers’ third overall pick in the 2021 draft. With the Cowboys hoping to turn their season around, they will face off against the Houston Texans on “Monday Night Football” in Week 11, with Rush expected to remain the starting quarterback for now.
