After almost six years as the starting quarterback for the New York Giants, the team announced Daniel Jones’ release. The former No. 6 overall pick had recently been benched in favor of Tommy DeVito.

Jones dropped to the fourth spot on the depth chart when the Giants added Tim Boyle, signaling his imminent departure. Rather than waiting until the end of the season, Jones requested his release, as stated by Giants President John Mara.

Though the veteran quarterback has faced challenges, he would be the top free-agent quarterback if he clears waivers.

The Dallas Cowboys lost Dak Prescott for the season, and Cooper Rush has gone 0-2 since taking over. Having faced Jones numerous times, Dallas is likely familiar with his playing style.

Veteran Cowboys reporter Clarence Hill Jr. took to X, urging Dallas to sign Jones.

“Cowboys go get Daniel Jones. Let’s have fun,” Hill tweeted.

If Jones clears waivers, he may be open to joining a team on a smaller contract, making him an affordable option. Alternatively, he could wait in free agency for a more enticing opportunity to arise.
