The Cowboys have several roster concerns, and doubts linger about whether Dak Prescott is a true franchise quarterback. Colin Cowherd of Fox Sports proposed a dramatic solution:

Dallas should pursue Sanders, even if it means trading superstar defender Micah Parsons. Cowherd also suggested pairing Shedeur with his father, Deion Sanders, as the team’s next head coach.

“If I were the Dallas Cowboys, I wouldn’t care about Dak’s new contract,” Cowherd stated on the November 19, 2024, episode of The Herd. “I’d bring in Deion Sanders and draft Shedeur Sanders. If it cost Micah Parsons and three first-round picks, I’d do it. Big swings fix big problems.”

Micah Parsons’ Future Contract Could Be Worth Nearly $88 Million

There’s no indication Dallas is ready to overhaul its quarterback position. If the Cowboys continue losing games, they could move up in the 2025 NFL Draft without making a massive trade.

Entering Week 12, Dallas held the No. 9 pick in the draft. However, their upset win over Washington in Week 12 pushed them to the No. 11 spot.

With Prescott and CeeDee Lamb recently signing big extensions, Parsons is the next Cowboys star due for a new deal. Currently in the final year of his rookie contract, worth $17 million over four years, Parsons could command a three-year, $87.9 million deal, according to Spotrac.

Should the Cowboys Consider Trading Micah Parsons?

Dallas exercised Parsons’ fifth-year option, ensuring a $21.3 million salary in 2025 if no new deal is reached. Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports believes the Cowboys should at least entertain trade offers for Parsons.

“I’m not saying the Cowboys should trade Parsons, but with him likely becoming the NFL’s highest-paid non-quarterback, it’s worth seeing if a team would offer a huge package for him,” Robinson wrote in his article “QB Room, Week 10.”

Robinson compared Parsons’ potential trade value to Brian Burns, for whom the Rams once offered two first-round picks. He speculated Parsons might fetch three first-rounders in a blockbuster trade.

Shedeur Sanders: A Top QB Prospect with 34 Touchdowns in 2024

Sanders is expected to be one of the top picks in the 2025 NFL Draft. This season, he’s thrown for 3,488 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions while completing 73.4% of his passes. He’s also added four rushing scores.

However, Prescott’s massive four-year, $240 million extension complicates any move for Sanders. With his deal running through 2028, it’s unlikely Dallas will pursue a new quarterback soon.
