Mike McCarthy is facing immense pressure in his final year as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, attempting to salvage a challenging season. Despite being contenders for the NFC East title early on, injuries have derailed their plans.
On offense, the loss of Dak Prescott for the season was a massive setback, with Brandin Cooks also sidelined for over a month. Defensively, the team has been plagued by injuries to key players like Micah Parsons, DeMarcus Lawrence, Trevon Diggs, and DaRon Bland at various points.
However, after back-to-back wins against the Commanders and Giants, the Cowboys now believe they can still make the playoffs and compete for the Super Bowl.
Can the Cowboys win the Super Bowl?
The Dallas Cowboys currently have just a 4% chance of reaching the playoffs, but winning their remaining games could potentially secure a wild-card spot. Despite this, Mike McCarthy is staying grounded and not focusing on long-term scenarios.
“I’ve done this a long time. You’re really wasting your time talking about narratives that are hypotheticals. You don’t discuss that until you reach ten wins. If winning out is the path, that’s the reality. We’ve done well staying focused on the next game. Getting this win was critical, especially at home and in the division.”
What is the Cowboys’ record now?
At 5-7, the Cowboys are two games behind the Commanders for the No. 7 seed in the NFC. However, they face stiff competition from teams like the Cardinals, Buccaneers, Rams, and 49ers. McCarthy cautioned his team against being distracted by playoff aspirations.
“We feel different now than before Washington. That’s fair. It’s a good feeling, and we’ve fought to get here. But we’re still in adversity. We’ve made progress, but there’s a long way to go. We need to stay the course. With how we’ve worked through challenges, I believe our best days are still ahead.”
