On Monday evening, Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman appeared on 105.3 The FAN ahead of the Monday Night Football game between the Dallas Cowboys and Cincinnati Bengals, offering some pre-game commentary. During the discussion, Aikman was asked whether he believed head coach Mike McCarthy would remain with the Cowboys for the 2025 season. After hearing Aikman’s thoughts, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones shared his own opinion on McCarthy, as reported by Bobby Belt of 105.3 The FAN on X.

“Mike McCarthy is an exceptional coach,” Jones said. “He has an impressive record and brings a wealth of experience. A lot of the success we’re seeing on the field is due to the kind of coach he is.”

With both Aikman and Jones publicly supporting McCarthy, it seems likely that the Cowboys won’t be searching for a new head coach this offseason.

Jerry Jones expresses confidence in McCarthy for 2025

McCarthy, who spent 13 years as head coach of the Green Bay Packers, is in his fifth season with the Cowboys. During his tenure, the Cowboys have posted a 47-33 record, with the 2024 season still in progress.

However, McCarthy’s playoff performance has been a major point of criticism. In his five seasons with Dallas, he has won only one postseason game.

While Jones praised McCarthy’s impressive record and experience, those accolades haven’t translated into postseason success, particularly this year. If the Cowboys are satisfied with consistent regular-season performance but continued playoff shortcomings, McCarthy may still be the right choice for the role.
