Skip Bayless Criticizes Jerry Jones After Missed Opportunity with Pete Carroll

Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager, Jerry Jones, recently came under fire from sports journalist Skip Bayless for passing on Pete Carroll as head coach. After parting ways with Mike McCarthy, the Cowboys had been searching for a new head coach for several weeks. Reports indicated that Jones had spoken with veteran coach Pete Carroll, exploring the possibility of hiring him for the role.

However, it was a surprise when the Cowboys instead decided to promote their offensive coordinator, Brian Schottenheimer, to head coach. Bayless, outraged by the decision, took to X to criticize Jerry Jones. He claimed that the rumors about the Cowboys considering Carroll were fabricated and that Jones hired Schottenheimer in order to maintain control over the team.

“Jerry Jones is crafty. He’s great at the PR game. Now he’s leaked that he spoke to Pete Carroll. But he never brought him in for an interview. He just talked to him so he could later say, ‘Well, we talked, but nothing really came of it,’ after hiring Schottenheimer. Cut it out, Jerry. I’ve had enough,” Bayless tweeted on X.

“He’s just too much for you, Jerry. You couldn’t manage Pete Carroll, you couldn’t control him. He would’ve taken over your franchise. And once he won— and I believe he would’ve won quickly— he’d get most of the credit, maybe not as much as Deion Sanders, but he’d get most of it,” Bayless added.

Although Jerry Jones didn’t hire Pete Carroll, the veteran coach has found a new role with the Las Vegas Raiders. At 73 years old, Carroll will be one of the oldest coaches in the NFL. Prior to this, he was a senior advisor for the Seattle Seahawks during the 2024 NFL season.

Robert Griffin III Questions Jerry Jones’ Commitment to Winning

Meanwhile, Robert Griffin III shared a controversial opinion regarding Jerry Jones’ decision to promote Brian Schottenheimer. The former NFL quarterback, who played for the Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns, expressed on X that the Dallas Cowboys “aren’t serious about winning.”

This sentiment was echoed by numerous fans and sports analysts, with many criticizing Jones for opting for a safer choice in Schottenheimer instead of making a more ambitious move. Some even suggested that Jones may have lost his competitive drive and is now prioritizing security over success.
