Da’Shawn Hand, a defensive tackle for the Miami Dolphins, was seen warming up ahead of an NFL preseason match against the Atlanta Falcons on August 11, 2023, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. According to NFL Network, Hand is now set to join the Los Angeles Chargers on a one-year contract worth $3.35 million, marking the end of his two-year tenure with the Dolphins. During his time in Miami, Hand totaled 48 tackles, six of which were for a loss, along with one sack, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.
Lions supporters may recall Hand, as he was selected by Detroit in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft with the 114th overall pick. The 29-year-old spent his first four seasons in Detroit, recording 54 tackles, six tackles for loss, three sacks, three forced fumbles (with one recovery), and two passes defended. After earning All-Rookie honors in 2018 from the Pro Football Writers of America, Hand faced injuries over the following years, which led to his release in November 2021.
Following his release, Hand briefly spent 10 days on the Indianapolis Colts’ practice squad before being let go. In January 2022, he signed with the Tennessee Titans and played for two seasons before joining the Dolphins in 2023. Despite his college success at Alabama, where he was named second-team All-SEC twice and helped secure two CFP national championships in 2015 and 2017, Hand’s NFL career has not fully matched the high expectations set for him.
