David Moyes has enjoyed his Everton return, taking them away from relegation danger and transforming them into European contenders.
His first term with the club was quite successful, and he is the only Everton manager to reach a cup final since the Toffees last won a title in 1995.
Moyes has re-energized the Blues, and before confirming his return to Merseyside, he stated that two Everton legends had persuaded him to reprise his role as Everton manager.
Baines and Coleman persuaded Moyes to return.
In an interview with Jamie Carragher, Moyes revealed that former star Leighton Baines and current club captain Seamus Coleman visited him at his home and persuaded him to return to the boyhood Evertonian.
He stated: “There have been many great managers who have been here and failed to resolve issues. “
“The one thing I knew I had in my favour was my understanding of the club, of what the supporters here require and want.
“What happened next was that I received a phone call from Seamus Coleman, and he and Leighton Baines came to my house.
“They pushed me over the line to return because they said that with what we call in football ‘the small wins’ I could galvanise the team.
“That gave me the final nudge I needed. “
David Moyes knew exactly what Everton required.
Everton were a disaster before Moyes returned, but after demonstrating his capacity to pull the Blues away from relegation, he was the best option in January 2025.
He has restored discipline and order to the Toffees, and at long last, they are no longer treading water.
Moyes has made no secret that he believes his team possesses the skills to achieve European qualification and compete on the continent.
However, given Everton’s history of fighting at the bottom of the table, their current position near the top is remarkable improvement.
Europe would be wonderful, but Moyes’ reintroduction of a strategy and vision at the club will be one of his greatest achievements in his second spell at Everton.
