Detroit Lions Acquire Another Alabama Linebacker with 117 Tackles and 5 Sacks in Proposed Trade

Detroit Lions general manager Brad Holmes has shown a clear preference for drafting talent from Alabama. Since taking charge in 2021, he has selected several Crimson Tide standouts, including Jameson Williams, Jahmyr Gibbs, Brian Branch, and most recently, Terrion Arnold.

With the 2025 NFL Draft approaching, speculation is growing about whether Holmes will once again turn to Alabama when making his selection. According to Dan Parr of NFL.com, the Lions are projected to do just that with the 28th overall pick in his latest mock draft.

Lions Target Alabama Linebacker

Parr’s projection has the Lions selecting linebacker/edge rusher Jihaad Campbell from Alabama at No. 28 overall. He notes that Holmes has taken at least one player from the Crimson Tide in each of the past three drafts and suggests that Campbell’s versatility—both as a pass rusher and an off-ball linebacker—makes him an attractive option.

Evaluating the Pick

If Detroit opts for Campbell, they will be adding a dynamic playmaker to their defense. This raises the question of whether the Lions should invest a first-round pick in another linebacker, given their greater needs on the defensive line and possibly the offensive line—especially if veteran Kevin Zeitler does not return.

Holmes has consistently prioritized talent over positional needs in the draft, focusing on selecting the best player available. If Campbell is still on the board when Detroit is on the clock, he could very well be their next first-round pick.
