The Detroit Lions made an intriguing coaching appointment that has already caused a lot of negative feedback from supporters.

Arguably, the Detroit Lions, coached by Dan Campbell, were the biggest disappointment of the 2025 NFL campaign. After having a 15-2 record, the finest in team history, the Lions hobbled to a 9-8 conclusion and failed to make the playoffs for the first time in three years.

Detroit didn’t wait long to implement modifications. Despite the fact that the Lions had the fourth-best scoring offense in the league (28. 3 points per game), Campbell sacked offensive coordinator John Morton.

On Monday, the Lions recruited two outstanding new coaches. The new offensive coordinator is Drew Petzing. Additionally, Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network stated that former New York Giants head coach Mike Kafka was hired for “a high-ranking offensive staff role. “

Following the firing of head coach Brian Daboll, Kafka served as the Giants’ interim head coach for the remainder of the 2025 campaign. Fans were perplexed by the Lions’ choice to bring Kafka on board because New York went 2-5 under him and ended the year with a 4-13 record.

Talk about failing upwards,” said a fan

“Dan Campbell is a bottom tier coach in the league,” a user commented

“One of the best? Lions finished in last place🤣🤣. Campbell is a terrible coach!!” said another

“Bad hire. Maybe he’s using that 1 game against the Giants where he pulled out the trick plays. Other than that Kafka is not really good at calling plays,” a fan stated.

“Lions will still suck,” another added.

“Just stacking up mid coaches 😂,” wrote a user.

Whether this move pays off for the Detroit Lions is something that only time will tell. It’s probably best to hold off on forming an opinion until we see the on-field results next season, given how quickly Campbell transformed the Lions.
