As the 2023 first-rounder is eligible for a well-deserved contract extension and payout, the Lions are thought to be considering making running back Jahmyr Gibbs the highest-paid back this offseason after an outstanding 2025 season with Detroit.

Gibbs, now in his fourth year of his four-year rookie contract, has surpassed the 1,000-yard mark in each of the previous two seasons. In 2025, he ran for 1,223 yards and 13 touchdowns.

The Lions’ ground game established franchise single-season records in 2024 for rushing touchdowns (29) and games with 100 rushing yards (16), and it tied an NFL single-season record by generating 15 games with at least 100 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown.

Saquon Barkley, the Philadelphia Eagles’ star running back, earns $20. 6 million each year, making him the highest-paid player in the league.

With a lucrative extension, the Lions are predicted to make Jahmyr Gibbs the highest-paid running back in the NFL this offseason.

Spotrac estimates Gibbs’ market worth to be around $20. 2 million and predicts that he will be made a contract in the neighborhood of six years for $60,484,512 ($20,161,504 per season).

The Lions want to give their thrilling backfield choice a contract that values his talent set and significance to the future of the team, even if that number is based on league-wide trends and similar contracts for players of similar age.
