Even though the Detroit Lions had recently suffered from injuries, things seemed to be improving, and the majority of its best players were anticipated to be healthy for the start of the regular season. All-Pro right tackle Penei Sewell looked to have a foot injury during Wednesday’s practice, so the Lions may have one more problem to deal with.

UPDATE: Justin Rogers was informed by a team source that Sewell is “good.”

The Lions were completing their final intense training camp drill before facing the Pittsburgh Steelers in their final 2024 preseason game this Saturday. The purpose of the session was to provide the starting lineup with game-ready preparation for their first-round matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.

At his morning press conference, Campbell stated, “This type of day is really, this is another step to prepare these players that are playing in this Rams game, to get them physically ready for what is coming, because this will, for the most part, be their (preseason) game.”

Sewell seemed to hurt his foot at the end of the Lions’ first-team scrimmage and needed help from the trainers. He managed to carefully make his way to the bench.

Following practice, the team officially announced that Sewell was battling with a foot issue.

This is all the information we currently have about Sewell’s injury, and because coach Dan Campbell did not make himself accessible to the media until after Saturday’s game, it looks like we will have to wait a while for further information.

Colby Sorsdal, a second-year offensive lineman who has been playing right tackle for the second team during training camp, took Sewell’s spot in the starting lineup. Dan Skipper, who is also a candidate to be the starting tackle in Game 2, hurt his ankle against the Chiefs and missed practice on Wednesday. However, he should be back next week. The reserves still include freshly signed Jamarco Jones and rookie Giovanni Manu.
