The Detroit Lions will be led by great quarterback Jared Goff, who recently signed a four-year contract worth $212 million.During a media interview on Thursday, Lions general manager Brad Holmes mentioned Goff as a key player for the team.

The Lions have had a rebirth under Holmes and head coach Dan Campbell, and Goff has been important in propelling the team to its most successful season in recent memory. According to NBC Sports, Holmes gave a nine-word endorsement for the 29-year-old quarterback, eliminating any question in the franchise.

“He’s the right guy, he’s the leader for us,” Holmes said.

Lions’ Brad Holmes has seen first-hand the growth of Jared Goff

Last season with the Lions, Goff threw for 4,575 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions in his third season with the team after starting his career with the Los Angeles Rams.

The former No. 1 overall choice out of the University of California has proven he was not damaged goods as some may have thought coming from his last squad, as Holmes would extol his praises when on the Rams with Goff.

“He didn’t need a contract to go out there and do what he does on the field; he earned it,” Holmes said Thursday. “I have not seen any difference in him. If anything, it’s been better because it’s another year of stability, which I applaud Dan [Campbell] for having with the coaching staff. That has obviously helped, and we have a lot of recognized faces as well. I see it getting much better.

“It’s been amazing to see his growth as a player ever since our days back with the Rams with him,” Holmes exclaimed. “But yeah, I’m not going to say that he needed the contract to elevate him, he was already elevating, playing at a high level, but I do think it’s going to be better for all the other things I named.”

Sam LaPorta looks up to Lions’ Jared Goff and his consistency

Goff is a team leader who has received backing from players such as Lions tight end Sam LaPorta, who had a good debut season. He would particularly emphasize his “consistency,” claiming that no one on the squad is more like that than Goff.

“I say this about Jared frequently, but he’s the same person every day,” LaPorta told me. “You won’t find somebody more consistent than Jared Goff in our building. And for him to lead the squad, you must be consistent.

You will have good and bad days in the NFL; that is simply the nature of the game and how competitive this league is. But he comes in every day, works, and leads by example and sets the tone in the building.”
