The top kneecap-biter for the Detroit Lions is an acting talent.

As head coach of the Lions, Dan Campbell has shown himself to be a master motivator, taking Detroit from a 3-13 record in his first season to a 12-5 record and a trip to the NFC Championship Game in the previous one. In the recently released Applebee’s Grill & Bar commercial, the intense Campbell revealed a much lighter side.

While appearing as a waitress in the advertisement, Campbell is actually a coach, and his play-call sheet is an Applebee’s menu. It is strange that he is wearing a whistle as coaches do not typically use them during games. Anyhow…

Approaching a table occupied by two patrons, Campbell says, “Welcome to Applebee’s.” Like other football coaches, he covers his lips when delivering his next phrase to keep the opposing team from overhearing their sideline chats.

Campbell offers nicely, “Can I interest you in America’s favorite boneless wings for just 50 cents each?” Campbell cuts the customer off before he can complete his order.

“Cover your mouth!” exclaims a suspicious Campbell. “They can steal your order.”

With their lips covered by menus, the patrons place an order for wings. Then, a grateful Campbell remarks, “Excellent. They will not ever anticipate it.”

With betting odds and analysts projecting a run to the franchise’s first-ever Super Bowl, the Lions are venturing into uncharted territory. The Applebee’s advertisement further attests to the team’s and their head coach’s newfound notoriety.

The NFL is ruled by Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, together with his two future Hall of Famers, Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes, who win Super Bowls and control the endorsement and commercial landscape. However, if Campbell and the Lions live up to the anticipation, football-themed advertising may have a new favorite.

This season, Campbell and his excellent team just can not fail miserably. If not, there will be a new favorite meme on NFL Twitter with a coach who supports kneecap
