The Los Angeles Rams face enormous obstacles as they prepare for their season opener against the Detroit Lions on Sunday Night Football.
Tyler Higbee, the team’s starting tight end, will miss the first four games of the season. In addition, starting left tackle Alaric Jackson and backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo are serving two-game suspensions. To make matters worse, starting right tackle Rob Havenstein has an ankle injury and may miss the first game.
The Rams’ secondary has been especially severely affected by injuries. Derion Kendrick, a cornerback, has been ruled out for the full season after tearing his ACL during training camp. Jerry Jacobs was discharged owing to a groin injury, and Cobie Durant has lately been listed on the injury report with a hamstring issue.
Darious Williams, the starting cornerback, has also been placed on the reserve/injured list due to a hamstring issue, meaning he will miss at least the first four games.
Williams labored with this ailment throughout training camp and was limited in practice before the season. His earliest return might be in Week 5 against the Green Bay Packers, immediately following the Rams’ bye week.
Williams, who previously played four seasons with the Rams before spending the last two with the Jacksonville Jaguars, was expected to play an important role in the Rams’ defense with fellow free agent signing Tre’Davious White.
The Rams’ current roster includes White, Durant, Quentin Lake, Russ Yeast, and undrafted free agents Charles Woods and Josh Wallace. Cornerback options on the practice squad include Cam Lampkin and Shaun Jolly.
As the Rams prepare for their season opener, they must handle these injuries and find methods to react swiftly.
