For Week 1, the Lions elevated defensive lineman Kyle Peko and wide receiver Tom Kennedy from the practice squad to the active roster. NFL rules allow teams to elevate practice squad players up to three times before requiring a permanent roster spot.

Additionally, the Lions signed defensive lineman Chris Smith from the practice squad to the active roster, filling the final spot on the 53-man roster.

The Lions’ defense, led by coordinator Aaron Glenn, will feature several new players. Head coach Dan Campbell and his staff are excited about the potential impact of the new additions.

“I’m very eager, I’m very eager,” Campbell said. “There’s a lot of excitement within myself, the defensive staff, and the whole squad. The players are ready to showcase the hard work and how the new pieces fit together.”

Detroit retained its linebackers while strengthening the defensive line and secondary. Marcus Davenport joins the pass rush, with Carlton Davis, Amik Robertson, Terrion Arnold, and Ennis Rakestraw added to the secondary.

After struggling against the pass last season, Detroit hopes these new additions will improve performance in that area.

“I think this D-line can be the engine we’ve needed,” Campbell said. “Our linebackers are solid, and we’ve made good additions to the secondary. I’m excited to see where this game goes.”
