DETROIT: Julian Okwara, a former Detroit Lions third-round selection, is being promoted to the Arizona Cardinals’ active roster.
Okwara spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles before joining Arizona’s practice squad after being cut from the starting lineup. Having played out his rookie contract with the Lions for the previous four seasons, he recorded nine sacks and twelve tackles for loss.
Throughout his four years in Detroit, the 26-year-old has failed to remain consistently available, despite showing flashes in the pass-rushing phase during his time at Notre Dame. The greatest season for Okwara, the younger brother of former Lions pass rusher Romeo Okwara, came in 2021 when he played in a career-high 13 games and recorded a career-best five sacks.
In Week 3, Detroit will travel to play these Cardinals for the first time this season.
