Now that the majority of the NFL schedule for Week 2 has been completed, let us look at some of the league’s greatest losers from Sunday.
Head coach of the New York Giants, Brian Daboll
Before the game, he was aware that his kicker was not at full strength. For the game, he did not add another kicker to his roster. Then he was forced to watch as his already wounded kicker was unable to return for the first kickoff of the game. That was an unforced mistake for a squad that cannot afford any mistakes in a game that they lost by three points.
Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence
Although Lawrence is undoubtedly among the best quarterbacks in the league, the Jaguars are not getting enough value out of him to justify his salary. He failed to generate enough plays and struggled to move the ball in Sunday’s 18–13 loss to the Cleveland Browns. Since the 2023 season, he has now lost seven straight starts.
The Indianapolis Colts play defense.
Given that quarterback Jordan Love was not in the starting lineup for the Green Bay Packers, the Indianapolis Colts had to anticipate that their attack would be run-heavy and have little chance of passing the ball. They really did just that. Even yet, the Colts were unable to stop them, giving up 261 yards on the ground in
quarterback for the Detroit Lions, Jared Goff
Goff has performed admirably in reviving his career and has been a fantastic fit for the Lions. With two interceptions and an average of just 5.6 yards per throw attempt, he did not have a stellar day on Sunday. As the Lions tried to take the lead late in the game, deep in Tampa Bay territory, came the second of those interceptions.
Defense of the Dallas Cowboys
Speaking of poor defense, the Cowboys fell to the New Orleans Saints 44-19 on Sunday because they were unable to stop either the run or the throw. The Cowboys appeared just as terrible on Sunday as they did in their Week 1 victory against the Cleveland Browns.
Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis
Levis made a completely perplexing decision with the football that cost his team points for the second week in a row. This time, his team made an unacceptable backward, desperate pass in the red zone, which led to a Jets fumble recovery and a points-deprived play for the Titans.
Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young
Perhaps it is not entirely his fault. To be honest, it is quite unlikely that it is all his responsibility. Young was selected into one of the NFL’s most challenging situations, with Carolina’s awful ownership, poor roster management, and subpar coaching. You would still like to see him make some progress, though. He had a historically poor throwing day, managing just 84 yards on 26 attempts, and the Panthers began the second half of the game with a crushing loss. The Panthers are not buying it.
Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton
During the game on Sunday, Payton made a few odd choices in the fourth quarter. When the team was deep into Steelers territory and trailed by 13 points He decided against going for a fourth-and-six and instead attempted a field goal. Although the kick was successful, it did not change the outcome of the game from being a two-score contest. With less than two minutes remaining in regulation, the Broncos kicked another field goal. With only one timeout remaining, he decided to kick off deep rather than attempt an onside kick. With just eighteen seconds remaining and no timeouts, the Broncos regained possession of the ball more than seventy yards from their end zone. Those are not the kinds of decisions the Broncos likely want to see, considering the amount of money and draft picks they paid Payton to join them.
