To give themselves the best chance at winning the Super Bowl this year, the Detroit Lions need to secure a reliable pass-rush.

Aidan Hutchinson is already proving dependable after two games, but Detroit’s depth behind him remains uncertain.

Marcus Davenport performed well in Week 1, though his injury history is a concern, and he’s already missed a game. Additionally, the Lions can’t rely on players like James Houston or Josh Paschal to fill the gap.

Given this, the Lions should explore all options to strengthen their defense, including a potential trade for star edge rusher Haason Reddick, who is currently in a contract dispute with the New York Jets.

In a recent trade proposal article, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox identifies the Lions as a possible destination for Reddick. He suggests the Lions could offer a 2026 third-round pick for the pass rusher.

“The Lions did sign Marcus Davenport, who managed a half-sack in Week 1,” Knox noted. “However, there’s room for another impactful defender. Reddick, with 11 sacks and 35 quarterback pressures in 2023, would be a perfect fit.”

Reddick might be available for less than a 2026 third-round pick, as a large contract extension would likely be part of any deal.

If the chance arises, the Lions should jump at acquiring Reddick, as he could greatly improve their pass rush, with an average of nearly 13 sacks per season over the last four years.

Approaching 30, Reddick is young enough to be a long-term solution, and the Lions have the resources to afford him both now and going forward.
