The Detroit Lions stand at 1-1 after two games in 2024. They celebrated a thrilling home victory against the Los Angeles Rams, but were subsequently defeated by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at home.   The second-week loss was particularly disheartening for Detroit, as it was not only a game they believed they should have won but also against a team they had previously triumphed over in the 2023-24 playoffs.

As week three approaches, QB Jared Goff is already encountering multiple concerning reports.

Although suggestions of turning to Hendon Hooker are unrealistic, there is genuine cause for concern regarding Goff’s performance so far. Goff thrives as a rhythm passer.

He excels when the surrounding offense is functioning well, creating opportunities for an elite performance. However, when neither Goff nor the offense is in sync, it leads to significant struggles.

We saw this issue in the game against the Buccaneers. Goff was inaccurate and seldom targeted a receiver beyond 20 yards downfield, a detrimental combination for any passing attack. His poor decision-making also led to an interception and several near-misses.

Despite facing some pressure, it was not overwhelming. Goff appeared unsettled and was unable to find his rhythm, negatively impacting the entire offense.

It’s surprising to see “benching” rumors arising just two games after the Lions were so close to the Super Bowl.
