Kicker Greg Joseph’s time in Detroit was brief.
Following the New York Giants’ loss of kicker Graham Gano to a leg injury, the team decided to sign the veteran kicker from the Detroit Lions’ practice squad to their active roster.
Joseph’s agent, Brett Tessler, announced the signing on social media.
Gano was listed on the Giants’ injury report after a light Saturday walk-through but tried to play Sunday against the Washington Commanders.
It seemed Gano struggled during pregame routines and was unable to compete, despite following his usual preparation.
“I didn’t miss many field goals in warm-ups. It was just bad luck,” Gano explained. “My groin was what it was. Everyone deals with something in warm-ups. My hamstring was fine.”
Unfortunately, the Giants chose not to elevate their practice squad kicker, forcing the offense to attempt two-point conversions multiple times.
Joseph had joined the Lions’ practice squad but was clearly behind Jake Bates, who has yet to miss a kick in 2024.
Joseph has also played for the Browns, Titans, and Buccaneers. He was part of the Buccaneers’ 2020 Super Bowl-winning team.
