Due to his self-defense, Detroit prosecutors have chosen not to press charges against the man who shot and killed two people at a Lions tailgate location after the game.

“It is truly heartbreaking that two lives were lost amidst the excitement and celebration at a Lions tailgate,” Wayne County prosecutor Kym Worthy stated.

Only after Jalen Welch, 25, brandished a gun during a dispute at Eastern Market, an outdoor market, did the 40-year-old gunman—who was licensed to carry a concealed handgun—pull the trigger, according to Worthy.

On Sunday, Welch was shot in the head. Then, according to Worthy, the same gunshot killed Rayshawn Palmer, a 40-year-old bystander who was attempting to mediate a settlement.

At first, the police said that the gunman had fired twice.

Two guns were found at the site, according to police chief James White, and the gunman, a guy in his 30s, was apprehended by law enforcement.

“We are investigating whether they knew each other precisely,” White stated, adding that “we were here and were able to hear the gunshots.” People became involved in an incident that occurred here. Guns, tailgating, and drinking do not go together. Before the Los Angeles Chargers and Las Vegas Raiders game last Sunday at SoFi Stadium, a woman was body-slammed, and a man was left bloodied and unconscious. The incident was just one example of the out-of-control fan violence that occurred at NFL games across the stadium last year.

“Have a fight if you are going to fight.” Live to battle another day. Everybody needs to own a firearm. They feel tougher as a result.

At first, White predicted that the culprit would be charged with murder.

The epidemic of fan violence that has engulfed the NFL over the last few seasons has cast a shadow over the sport.

The 53-year-old Patriots supporter Dale Mooney passed away at Gillette Stadium in September of last year following a beating at the hands of a Dolphins fan.

The father-of-two and devoted Patriots ticket holder, who was wearing Jones’ No. 10 jersey, was shown being swung at by a Dolphins fan in disturbing video that NBC10 was able to obtain.

Witnesses reported that Mooney collapsed to the ground during the intense fight shortly after the punch made contact. After that, he was taken to a local hospital and later declared deceased.

Nevertheless, an autopsy revealed that Mooney might have passed away from an unidentified “medical issue” rather than being struck by a punch from the Dolphins fans.

According to the Norfolk County District Attorney’s office, the autopsy did reveal a health condition that might have had a role in his demise.

Unpleasant situations that occurred in the fans or around the stadium went viral for the Giants, 49ers, Bengals, Commanders, Rams, Broncos, Ravens, and Seahawks last season.

According to a 2023 study, 1 in 14 NFL fans had experienced personal victimization, and roughly 40% of supporters had seen criminal activity at or near an NFL stadium. No place has experienced more disturbance among supporters than Lincoln Financial Field, home of the Philadelphia Eagles, with 63% of them reporting it. What is the most frequent crime that is observed? aggressiveness in body.

Conversely, less than 2% of Colts supporters indicated they are at ease allowing their kids to enter Lucas Oil Stadium by themselves. That percentage was 77 percent for all 32 teams.

Across the league, just 45% of female Lions fans said they would feel at ease by themselves at Ford Field, compared to 74% of those who said the same about the team. However, the quantity of women inflicting the violence may be the most startling aspect of this upsurge in violence.
