The dearth of experience behind CeeDee Lamb and Brandin Cooks has drawn a lot of attention and questions to the Dallas Cowboys wide receiving group in recent months.
The Cowboys have neglected to address the wide receiver position on the roster, much like they have not addressed the running back room.
However, a compelling alternative is beginning to emerge.
The Cowboys are one of the clubs that might be considering a wide receiver trade ahead of the league’s November draft, said ESPN’s Dan Graziano.
The Cowboys are well-acquainted with Cleveland Browns wide receiver Amari Cooper, who is one player who is gaining traction as a possible trade target.
Cooper was traded by the Cowboys to the Browns in 2022 in exchange for a fifth-round pick and a sixth-round pick, a move that sparked intense criticism. The depth of the Cowboys’ wide receiver corps has been in doubt ever since.
Cooper has two seasons with 1,000 yards and was a four-time Pro Bowl player for Dallas.
With the Browns, he had a fast start, recording consecutive seasons with over 70 receptions and 1,000 yards, but in 2024, he is off to a poor start. Cooper has only five receptions for 27 yards through two games. No one expects the Cincinnati Bengals and Baltimore Ravens to keep struggling as they currently sit in second and third place in the AFC North, behind the Browns, who are 1-1. Should the Browns falter in the upcoming month Jerry Jones would have to think about extending an offer to Cleveland in order to get Cooper back to Dallas if the Cowboys are still in the running come deadline day. Let us monitor the situation.
