The Dallas Cowboys have only managed one win in the first three games of the 2024 NFL season, following their defeat by the previously winless Baltimore Ravens on Sunday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. This loss drops them to third in the NFC East, ahead of only the New York Giants.
Although they tried to rally back after being down 28-6, their efforts fell short as the Ravens secured a 28-25 victory, marking their first win of the season after two straight losses.
Quarterback Dak Prescott noted in his postgame press conference that he and his teammates need to be more “professional,” according to Jon Machota of The Athletic.
“We’ve got to support our defense. I know they don’t want to allow 28 points,” Prescott stated. “But giving up 28 points against an MVP-caliber player and an offense like that means we need to score 30. We know it. We didn’t deliver.
“As players, we need to be more professional, understand our roles, know where we’re supposed to be, and keep doing that consistently with focus,” he added.
Prescott completed 28-of-51 passes for 379 yards and two touchdowns, but the Dallas defense allowed the Ravens to accumulate 456 total yards while controlling the ball for nearly 35 minutes.
Clearly frustrated, Prescott also appeared to criticize a group of fans after the game as they headed to the locker room, reportedly telling them to leave the bandwagon, according to Jeff Beachum of CBS News Texas.
“Leave if you want,” Prescott said. “Please, please.”
Before the season, there were questions about Prescott’s future with the Cowboys. Those doubts were settled when the Cowboys signed him to the richest contract in NFL history—a four-year deal with an $80 million signing bonus, $231 million guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $60 million.
With only one win in this critical season and no major offseason moves, Prescott’s performance hasn’t matched the high expectations of his new contract, which surpasses what Joe Burrow and Patrick Mahomes earn.
Prescott and the Cowboys face a short week before traveling to play the New York Giants on Thursday Night Football at MetLife Stadium.
