After a disheartening Week 3 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, former Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett—who is currently an analyst for NBC’s pregame show “Football Night in America”—had some harsh words to say about his former team.
Unsurprisingly, Jerry Jones, the owner of the Cowboys, responded to Garrett’s remarks with candor when questioned about the subject.
For obvious reasons, Garrett’s remarks attracted a lot of attention; The Athletic’s Jon Machota highlighted some of the former coach’s remarks.
Their football team is not a physical one. About the Cowboys, this is already known to all. Garrett stated, “You have to run the ball in there.”
“They dominated at home for the previous two years. Teams seem to have figured out the formula. Carry the ball, move forward, and
In response, Jones labeled the statement made by Shan and RJ on a recent broadcast of 105.3 The Fan as “cliche” and asked whether he agreed that the Cowboys are not a physical football team.
“No, I am aware of Jason Garrett’s mindset and I generally concur with it. This is what I mean when you hear folks arguing that they must halt the run and run the ball. Is it not the case that virtually all conversations begin with that? said Jones.
That would be the same of saying, “We need to unlock the store’s front door.” That is so overdone.”Even if Garrett’s remarks are important, they are difficult to refute, at least when considering the running game. The Cowboys have now lost two straight games despite gaining 51 and 68 yards on the ground with an average of 3.2 yards per carry in each contest.
Worse, in both losses, not a single player gained more than 32 yards in the air. With 30 yards against the New Orleans Saints and 32 against the Ravens, Rico Dowdle was the team’s top rusher in both contests.
Even though the Cowboys came dangerously close to pulling off a stunning comeback against the Ravens in the fourth quarter, the outcome only served to highlight more issues and raise doubts about the team’s prospects going into Week 4.
