The Detroit Lions made two key roster adjustments on Thursday, promoting Allen Robinson to the 53-man roster and signing a linebacker to the practice squad.

On Thursday, the Lions announced these moves before their first official practice of Week 4. Veteran wide receiver Allen Robinson was signed to the active roster, while linebacker Abraham Beauplan was added to the practice squad.

After placing Derrick Barnes and Marcus Davenport on injured reserve and signing wide receiver Tim Patrick earlier in the week, the Lions had an available roster spot, which Robinson now fills.

Robinson had originally joined the Lions’ practice squad after roster cuts as the team sought additional depth at wide receiver, specifically a player for the WR-X role. Robinson was promoted for Week 3’s game against the Cardinals but saw only one snap.

While the wide receiver group had fewer snaps than in previous games, upcoming matches will require more depth. Robinson, a veteran of 11 seasons, is known for his reliability on the field and his run-blocking skills, making him a valuable addition for Detroit.

“Allen Robinson was someone we tried to sign in free agency a couple of years ago,” said Lions GM Brad Holmes. “He’s a Detroit native, but that’s not why we signed him. He’s a proven player. Now it’s just about getting him acclimated. Whether that takes a week or a few weeks, we’ll see.”

Regarding Beauplan, he impressed during training camp and preseason. Though not initially signed to the practice squad after the team kept seven linebackers, he returns now to provide depth with Barnes on injured reserve.
