Lions’ skilled tight end back in action after missing Thursday’s practice.
The Detroit Lions hit the practice field Friday to prepare for their upcoming game against the Seattle Seahawks.
Absent from the portion of practice open to media were center Frank Ragnow and safety Ifeatu Melifonwu.
Tight end Sam LaPorta and offensive tackle Dan Skipper rejoined practice after sitting out on Thursday.
Defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn discussed the difficulties of facing the Seahawks’ talented wide receiving group. He acknowledged that having multiple strong options at the position is a smart strategy given how the game is played today.
“I’ll say this, if I were an offensive coach, I would certainly go that route because of the advantages it offers the offense right now,” Glenn noted. “And that’s fine, we get that. So I don’t think we’ll see much of a difference week-to-week in terms of facing top receivers, as there are just so many coming out of college. Teams draft these guys in the second or third round and they turn out to be great players.”
Glenn mentioned the unpredictability of wide receivers, as mid-to-late-round picks sometimes outshine their early-round peers.
Detroit’s defensive coordinator explained that having multiple options at wide receiver can keep defenses guessing.
“It’s really unpredictable,” Glenn said. “You might have a first-rounder who doesn’t perform as expected, and a third-rounder who surprises everyone. That’s what makes offense exciting, having three or four receivers on the field. You just never know which one will stand out.”
