Brian Branch, a defensive back for the Detroit Lions, is having an extremely difficult week.
Branch suffered a neck injury and was forced to the concussion protocol following a helmet-to-helmet hit with tight end Trey McBride in the team’s Week 3 victory over the Arizona Cardinals.
On Saturday, Branch also found out that he would pay a fine for both the hit and another that happened earlier in the game.Following a helmet-to-helmet collision with Cardinals tight end Trey McBride on Sunday, he was placed under concussion protocol. The league penalized him $10,128 for the hit because he used a helmet and was too violent, according to SI.com reporter John Maakaron.According to Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk, Branch was also fined the same amount for a hit he received during a field goal try earlier in the game.
For striking, kicking, or kneeing an opponent—who seemed to be Tip Reiman—during kicker Matt Prater’s 42-yard field goal to finish the first half, Williams writes, “the NFL also fined Branch $10,128 for unnecessary roughness.”
Lions’ Expensive Victory
Several players suffered significant injuries in the Lions’ 20-13 victory over the Cardinals. Lions safety Kerby Joseph and linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin were also fined by the NFL, as Maakaron pointed out. According to Makaaron, Reeves-Maybin was penalized for a late hit, while Joseph was fined for hitting an undefended receiver.
In the contest, the Lions also sustained a number of costly injuries. Frank Ragnow, the center, was able to play despite having a partially torn pectoral
Head coach Dan Campbell stated that he thinks center Ragnow could avoid being placed on injured reserve, despite the fact that he was ruled out of the team’s Monday Night Football match against the Seattle Seahawks.
Campbell reportedly told SI.com, “I really do not feel that way.” And generally, Frank recovers very quickly. He does, and his recovery is rapid. He is already feeling a lot better, as I mentioned earlier. Therefore, even though I do not feel that way, it is still early.
Sam LaPorta, the tight end for the Lions, was also hurt during the victory, but he is still anticipated to play against the Seahawks on Monday.
Brian Branch Achieves Significant Development
Branch, who was put in the concussion protocol, made some significant progress this week. He was able to resume practice fully on Friday, as reported by CBS Sports, and it looks like he is almost done with the concussion protocol.
According to the article, Branch is almost cleared since he “continues to progress through concussion protocols and by logging a full practice Friday.” “Branch looks to be a full go for the Lions’ Monday Night Football matchup against the Seahawks.”
Branch’s blow caused some frightening moments as he and McBride both tumbled to the ground and momentarily lost consciousness. Eventually, someone pulled Branch off the field and into the locker room.
Branch has made seven total tackles this season, including one tackle for a loss, and has started all three of the Lions’ games. He has one intercept as well.
