The Seattle Seahawks totaled 516 yards of offense in a 42-29 defeat against the Detroit Lions during their Monday night football clash at Ford Field.

Although Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald doesn’t see the loss as a definitive reflection of the team’s future, his post game comments suggested it was a wake-up call.

“It shows we’re not where we need to be right now,” Macdonald said after the game. “It wasn’t good enough. The Lions executed their plan well and deserved the win, while we fell short.”

He emphasized the need to bounce back quickly with a short week ahead, stressing the urgency to make improvements. “We have to go to work in the next few days and fix this.”

This loss was Macdonald’s first since taking over as head coach in the offseason, ending Seattle’s six-game winning streak against Detroit, which dated back to October 2015.

Seattle HC Macdonald Dropped Strong Comment After Suffering First Loss to Detroit Lions

A key factor in the Seahawks’ defeat was Lions quarterback Jared Goff’s perfect performance, completing 18 of 18 passes for 292 yards and two touchdowns.

Macdonald pointed out a critical mistake on defense that led to a 70-yard touchdown by Jameson Williams in the third quarter, putting the Lions ahead by two scores. “We made a huge mistake on that play, and we have no business doing that,” Macdonald said. “We need to look inward, take responsibility, and grow as a team.”

He acknowledged the Lions’ sharp execution. “They had a great plan. Goff played clean, they ran crisp routes, and we didn’t stop them. We’ve got a lot of work to do defensively and need to improve fast.”

Goff also caught a seven-yard touchdown pass from Amon-Ra St. Brown on a trick play called “Alcatraz.”
