Davante Adams, a wide receiver for the Las Vegas Raiders, is reportedly looking to leave the team. The Detroit Lions are being considered as a potential suitor for Adams, matching him with Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown.
The Raiders have reportedly told other teams that they would “consider” trading star wide receiver Davante Adams for a package that would include a second-round pick and additional compensation, according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Tuesday, October 1. Following that post, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said that Adams told the Raiders he “would prefer to be elsewhere.”
“Acquiring Team to Take On Davante Adams Without Any Cap Hit”
Adam Adams’ trade situation was covered by NFL analysts Dan Graziano and Jeremy Fowler in their weekly buzz column for ESPN, which was published on October 2 ahead of Week 5. Graziano identified the Detroit Lions as a possible possibility for Adams.
According to Graziano, “teams with enough cap space to trade for Adams now” are the Jets, Cowboys, Commanders, and Lions. “The Steelers would probably have to wait until the deadline or find some other way of creating space,” said the team, who currently has about $10.5 million in cap space.
“After this one, Adams has two more years left on his contract, with scheduled salaries of $35.64 million in 2025 and 2026,” Graziano continued. But none of that money is guaranteed, so there’d be no cap charge for the acquiring team next year if it terminated him at the end of the season.”
The goal of Davante Adams is to “win a Super Bowl.”
Mike Payton of A to Z Sports stated that, “From a trade standpoint, it might not be that much considering that Adams is going to be 32-years-old this season and this is going to be a cost-cutting move for the Raiders,” in reference to the actual cost to the Lions of adding the six-time Pro Bowler.Payton suggested that the Raiders receive a third-round and fifth-round pick from Detroit in 2026 and that the Lions would receive Adams.
Payton said, “This is based off a few things.” “The first one being the Bears trade for Keenan Allen. It sets the price range for some of the older receivers now on the market. For a fourth-round pick in 2024, the Bears acquired Allen. Adams will draw more since he is marginally more skilled than Allen. For the Raiders, two day three choices is not a bad deal.
Adams’ “2024 salary is guaranteed, but 2025 and 2026 aren’t,” Payton reaffirmed, meaning the Raiders might clear cap room by dealing him. In turn, the Lions “would ultimately take on his $16.9 million base salary this season, but they would need to put in some work to ensure that they can reorganize.”
Thus, what is the likelihood that Adams aspires to be a lion? SideLion Report analyst and specialist on the NFL Brad Berreman points out that Detroit is status as a Super Bowl contender might tip the odds.
In an article published on October 2, Berreman stated, “Aside from his apparent desire to play with a quarterback he knows, Adams presumably would like to go to a team that can win a Super Bowl.” “Over the next few years, if not this year (the Jets and Saints are definitely iffy on that front).”
