The Lions’ offense resembled its true form against the Seahawks, and Dan Campbell highlighted two key players.

On Monday night, the Detroit Lions’ offense looked back to normal against the Seattle Seahawks, averaging 7.8 yards per play and converting 5-for-5 in the red zone, scoring 42 points.

David Montgomery had the game’s top “Angry Run” moment, but Jahmyr Gibbs contributed 78 yards and two rushing touchdowns. Second-year player Sam LaPorta also made an impact with four catches for 53 yards, as he aims to overcome a slow start to the season.

Campbell addressed Gibbs in his Tuesday press conference but also briefly mentioned LaPorta.

“They’re coming along,” Campbell said. “I think both Gibbs and LaPorta showed yesterday they’ve got their legs back. They looked as fresh as they’ve been since the start of training camp, and they’re improving.”

Campbell expanded on Gibbs, who was the main topic of the question.

“(Gibbs) is getting better each week, and there were about three runs yesterday that were so close to breaking free. It’s been like that every week, and more are coming close. So, I expect him to really take off soon.”

Gibbs was limited by a hamstring injury during camp, so it’s not surprising that it took him a few weeks to regain full speed, as Campbell mentioned.

LaPorta also struggled with a hamstring issue during camp. He then sustained a right ankle injury in Week 3 against Arizona but was off the injury report by the end of last week. He looked as sharp as ever against Seattle.

Gibbs (over 1,200 scrimmage yards, 11 touchdowns) and LaPorta (every major Lions rookie tight end record, NFL rookie tight end reception record) had standout rookie seasons last year.

If Monday night was the healthiest they’ve been in months and they’re both on the rise, then Campbell has effectively warned the defenses they will face after their Week 5 bye.
