The Detroit Lions made a risky move when they traded three selections to the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for Jameson Williams’ selection rights. The Alabama player immediately paid off for his decision and displayed a ton of promise. However, the promise has been overwhelmed by a reality of injuries and a suspension for gambling. It just has not worked the way Detroit or Williams envisioned.

The Kansas City Chiefs have a need for a pass catcher, and in a way that is urgent. They will use a passing “attack” in their Monday Night Football matchup against the New Orleans Saints in lieu of Marquise Brown and Rashee Rice. With their current roster, the Chiefs will rely on Justin Watson and JuJu Smith-Schuster to produce, while Mecole Hardman hopes to contribute despite missing practice due to a knee injury.

The Kansas City Chiefs have been thinking about improving their wide receiver corps. Being this severely limited with a big play receiver is a surefire formula for disaster for a team that is prone to and always searching for the big play. Even though Patrick Mahomes is an excellent quarterback, his magic bag is not endless. The time to act is now, especially considering that Travis Kelce is aging faster than a winter sun.

Williams has played in 22 games during his short career, hauling in 38 passes for 684 yards and five scores. A short career, and definitely not what the Lions had anticipated. Jameson Williams needs to be traded, and that means the Kansas City Chiefs must act.

The timing is ideal since they have a bye week following Monday night’s game against the Saints. After that, the schedule gets really tough, with games in October ending in San Francisco and Las Vegas. This is a logical course of action. The Chiefs would gain from this decision in 2024 and possibly beyond.
