The Detroit Lions have bolstered their receiving corps by signing wide receiver Allen Robinson from the practice squad, marking their second addition of a larger-bodied wideout this week. Earlier, they also signed Tim Patrick off the practice squad. Offensive coordinator Ben Johnson expressed a desire for more size on the perimeter during training camp, but initial targets did not pan out. The team’s pro scouting department then identified Patrick and Robinson as suitable options, leading to their signings ahead of Week 1.
Tim Patrick, standing at 6-foot-4, made his debut with the Lions in Week 2 and has recorded three receptions for 20 yards. Notably, he is the only receiver to register catches apart from Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams this season. Allen Robinson, who is 6-foot-2, played just one snap in his debut last week against Arizona.
Robinson, a Detroit native, began his football journey at Orchard Lake St. Mary’s before achieving All-American status at Penn State. He was drafted in the second round by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2014 and had a season with the Pittsburgh Steelers last year, where he totaled 34 receptions for 280 yards.
With these additions, the Lions aim to enhance their offensive options, especially as they look to diversify their passing game beyond their star receivers. Both Robinson and Patrick are expected to play vital roles as the season progresses.
