The Detroit Lions are seeking an edge rusher before the Nov. 5 NFL trade deadline, following season-ending injuries to Marcus Davenport and Aidan Hutchinson that have weakened their pass rush.
Head coach Dan Campbell recently expressed confidence that the team would find someone to fill the gap, though replacing Hutchinson’s elite production seems almost impossible.
However, NFL analyst Alex Kay from Bleacher Report has suggested a trade that could actually match Hutchinson’s impact. The player in question is Cleveland Browns superstar edge rusher, Myles Garrett.
The trade proposal would have the Lions sending a 2025 first-round pick, a 2026 first-round pick, and a conditional 2026 third-round pick, which becomes a second-rounder if the Lions make the Super Bowl, in exchange for Garrett.
Although the Lions would sacrifice future draft capital by giving up multiple Day 1 and 2 picks, Garrett’s addition would likely ensure Detroit’s defense ranks among the NFL’s best in 2024.
It’s a gamble worth considering, especially with the Super Bowl in sight, and the team could even add a conditional pick tied to a Super Bowl appearance.
This substantial package might not be enough to convince the Browns to part with Garrett, but the Lions would likely accept it as their Super Bowl window is wide open, and they’re exploring every option to boost their chances.
Adding Garrett would be a game-changer since he’s the top pass-rusher in the league. With two years left on his contract after 2024, Detroit could pair him with Hutchinson for several seasons, which would be overwhelming for other teams. Imagine that scenario.
It’s unclear if the Browns would trade their best player, but given Cleveland’s disastrous 1-6 record, nothing is off the table if the offer is right.
