Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams made a public statement on Thursday regarding his two-game suspension for violating the NFL’s Performance Enhancing Substances policy.

Through his agent, Williams expressed that the suspension was a “complete surprise” and that he was unaware of how any illegal substance entered his system. He stated that he would accept the suspension and not appeal the decision.

“I don’t use supplements or vitamins, and I’m very careful about even taking over-the-counter medicine,” Williams said.

“I’ve never taken anything to cheat or gain an unfair advantage. I understand I am responsible for what goes into my body, and I must take responsibility for this situation.”

“I have great respect for the game, my teammates, coaches, the Lions, and the city of Detroit. This suspension is disappointing, and being away from the team as they prepare will be painful. Out of respect for my teammates, this will be my final comment on the matter.”

Although Williams had the option to appeal, he indicated he would not pursue it.

The No. 12 overall pick in 2022, Williams has recorded 17 catches for 361 yards and 3 touchdowns this season. He will miss upcoming games against the Tennessee Titans and Green Bay Packers due to the suspension.
