The Detroit Lions are actively seeking a replacement for defensive end Aidan Hutchinson, who is out for the season due to a broken tibia. As the NFL’s trade deadline approaches on November 5, the Lions are exploring options for a pass-rusher. While some fans may dream of acquiring a big name like Maxx Crosby from the Las Vegas Raiders, analysts suggest that a solid, lesser-known player could effectively fill the role.

Azeez Ojulari of the New York Giants has emerged as a top target for the Lions, according to Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report. Ojulari, 24, has been performing well recently, recording three sacks in two games, and boasting four sacks, four tackles for loss, and six quarterback pressures for the season. Given the Giants’ poor record, they may be inclined to trade Ojulari, making him an appealing option for Detroit.

Analysts believe Ojulari’s skill set aligns well with the Lions’ needs. Doug Farrar from Athlon Sports highlighted Ojulari’s speed and agility, noting that while he may not rely on power moves, he possesses a diverse range of techniques to navigate through blockers effectively. His quickness allows him to exploit gaps and pressure quarterbacks without requiring complex schemes.

Additionally, other potential pass-rushing targets for the Lions include Chase Young from the New Orleans Saints and Za’Darius Smith from the Cleveland Browns. The consensus is that adding a competent pass-rusher like Ojulari could significantly bolster the Lions’ defense and their playoff aspirations.

If the Lions can secure the right pass-rusher before the trade deadline, they could enhance their chances of a deep postseason run, particularly if Hutchinson can return for a potential Super Bowl appearance. Analysts believe that with the right additions, the Lions could be on the path to their first NFL championship since 1957.
