According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the Lions have “checked on” Reddick’s availability, as the 30-year-old has not played this season due to a contract holdout.

Lions star Aidan Hutchinson, who leads the NFL with 7.5 sacks despite only five games, suffered a tibia and fibula fracture in last week’s victory over the Dallas Cowboys.

Hutchinson underwent surgery, likely sidelining him for the rest of the season, which leaves the Lions with a significant need at edge rusher.

Reddick has posted double-digit sack seasons in the last two years, with a career-best 16 in 2022 and 11 last season, leading to his first two Pro Bowl selections.

Despite his achievements, the Philadelphia Eagles traded Reddick to the Jets in the offseason, but Reddick refused to join the Jets without a new contract.

With Reddick still absent, Jets owner Woody Johnson stated that the organization allowed Reddick’s representatives to seek a trade, as reported by Rich Cimini of ESPN.

If the Lions can negotiate a good trade and contract with Reddick, he might be an ideal replacement for Hutchinson.

Other options Fowler mentioned include Za’Darius Smith of the Cleveland Browns and Josh Uche of the New England Patriots, as potential targets for Detroit.

Meanwhile, the Lions plan to rely on their current roster at defensive end.

James Houston and Josh Paschal, neither of whom have a sack this season, are expected to start for the Lions on Sunday against the undefeated Minnesota Vikings.

The Lions also brought in Isaiah Thomas from the Cincinnati Bengals’ practice squad, potentially adding depth at the position.
