Compared to how other NFL teams have fared against the Detroit Lions this season, the Seattle Seahawks’ 13-point loss a month ago doesn’t seem so bad.

Since then, the Lions have remained undefeated, crushing the Dallas Cowboys by 38 points, narrowly beating the tough Minnesota Vikings, and then routing the Tennessee Titans by 38 points on Sunday.

Unfortunately, Detroit’s star defensive end, Aidan Hutchinson, will miss the rest of the season due to a broken leg, having been placed on injured reserve two weeks ago. This makes the Lions likely buyers for an edge rusher at the NFL trade deadline. Could the Seahawks be willing to assist?

According to a recent trade proposal, they might be. Logan Ulrich at NFL Trade Rumors outlined nine potential trades, one of which involves the Seahawks sending outside linebacker Trevis Gipson to Detroit.

BSeahawks OLB Trevis Gipson to Lions

“Gipson joined the Seahawks after the preseason but has since fallen out of the edge rusher rotation, even with Seattle’s injuries. It wouldn’t be shocking to see him moved before the trade deadline or via waivers.

The Lions’ need for an edge rusher is well-known, and head coach Dan Campbell admitted after Week 7 that a move was likely. If they miss out on higher-profile options, Gipson could be a good fit.”

Ulrich suggests that the Seahawks might receive a conditional seventh-round draft pick in exchange for Gipson.

If this trade happens, no complaints here. The Seahawks would appreciate any return for Gipson, who hasn’t been effective since his trade from the Jaguars before the season.

That trade may not have been necessary if general manager John Schneider hadn’t traded Darrell Taylor to the Bears, but that’s another story.

The bottom line is that Gipson’s future in Seattle’s edge rotation seems dim, even with Uchenna Nwosu sidelined and Dre’Mont Jones struggling.

If any team is to win the Super Bowl, we’d prefer it be Detroit. This move might not change much for their title hopes, but they can try for a seventh-rounder.
